The Caboose (waycar) is seldom used by the railroads anymore, a
victim of progress. For 150 years, it had served as motor home for all
the freight crews. The cupola was designed to help crews watch for
defective bearings, which could cause a fire or derailment.
The railroads are a big part of the history of Chillicothe, and
bridged a gap of over 90 years from horse-drawn wagons to the high-speed
highways of today.
